In this course, we will explore the different stages and developments of Italian music throughout the centuries.
We will begin with the medieval period, where Italian music manifested primarily through sacred music.
During our Italian music history course, we will explore the importance of Gregorian chant and Renaissance polyphony and how these traditions influenced European music.
Moving on to the Baroque era, where Italian music reached its peak thanks to operatic works. We will analyze the works of composers such as Monteverdi and Handel, who contributed to defining the genre of Italian opera.
Next, in the classical period, Italian music distinguished itself mainly through composers of chamber and symphonic music. We will study the works of composers like Scarlatti and Paganini and how they influenced the European musical landscape.
Continuing in our Italian music history course, we will explore the Romantic period, where Italian music reached another peak thanks to composers like Verdi and Puccini.
We will study the evolution of Italian opera during this period and how the works of these composers became cornerstones of the operatic repertoire.
On request, at additional cost, it will be possible to listen to Italian opera directly in the opera theaters in Florence.
Finally, upon request, a comparison with the contemporary period and the advent of pop and rock music will be possible.
We will examine how Italian artists like Fabrizio De André, Franco Battiato, Lucio Battisti, Vasco Rossi, and Ligabue have influenced the Italian and international music scene.
Through lessons, listening sessions, and discussions, we hope to provide a comprehensive and stimulating overview of the history of Italian music.
At the end of our Italian music history course, students will be able to appreciate and understand the evolution of Italian music over the centuries and its influence on global music.
