courses of the History of Florence - study the History of the Renaissance town
COURSE OF THE HISTORY OF FLORENCE
Our courses can be followed by anyone. No particular requirements nor enrollment in our Italian courses are requested to attend this program. All lessons can be taught in Italian or English.
In this course, Florence, the town of the Medici family, Mona Lisa, Michelangelo, Leonardo and Galileo, is studied in its historic, urban and social contexts.
The course covers and analyzes the different historical phases of Florence, from its founding, during the Roman era up until today. Special attention is given to periods of higher development in Florence: the “re-birth” of the late Middle Ages, and the splendor of the Renaissance, when the city under the Medici government and with numerous artists, philosophers, writers, and Popes, became a center of culture and modern civilization.
The course explores the activities of the Florentines, their social conflicts, interests and secrets throughout the various centuries.
The teacher will take you on visits to historic sites (such as the houses of Dante, Ghiberti and Brunelleschi; Michelangelo's studio; places where the artists gathered; etc.) that were witness to Florence's unique and fascinating history, spanning over 2000 years.
The program of this course can be arranged for one to 4 weeks in order to give a general insight to those who can only spend a few days with us and a more complete, in-depth knowledge to anyone who can stay longer.
